We are pleased to invite you to the next event of the Berlin Regional Group. This time, the focus will be on dispute resolution under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The DSA aims to strengthen the protection of users against illegal content on the internet. In particular, large online platforms are being held accountable. A key component of the DSA is the establishment of dispute resolution bodies that act as neutral instances to resolve disputes between users and online platforms. This is intended to allow users to obtain their rights more quickly, easily, and cost-effectively than in traditional court proceedings.
In August 2024, the first dispute resolution body in Germany, the Berlin-based "User Rights GmbH," was certified. Since then, dispute resolution procedures against platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn have been possible. At our regional group meeting, we would like to learn more about the dispute resolution procedure under the DSA and receive an initial assessment from the founders of User Rights GmbH as well as representatives of the users. To this end, we will speak with Prof. Dr. Stephan Breidenbach, a university professor, arbitrator, and one of the co-founders of User Rights GmbH, and Josephine Ballon, Managing Director of HateAid gGmbH and member of the advisory board of the Digital Services Coordinator at the Federal Network Agency.
The event will be conducted in German.
