On 12 March 2025, the DIS Regional Group Frankfurt gathered at the historic Villa Bonn to discuss pioneering developments – most notably, the possible abolition of the ban on third-party ownership of law firms and third-party funding. The event was sponsored by Burford Capital and Nivalion AG.
The event kicked off with a keynote address by Völker Römermann, CSP, who provided an in-depth analysis of the ECJ’s landmark judgment in Halmer Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft v. RAK München (C-295/23), delivered on 19 December 2024. His remarks not only clarified the legal implications of the ruling, but also set the stage for a broader discussion on its potential impact on the legal market and regulatory landscape. Building on these insights, the subsequent panel discussion – moderated by Laura de la Motte (Handelsblatt) – featured a dynamic exchange between Römermann and Christoph Schalast (Schalast Partner). Their conversation delved into missed opportunities for reform, evolving market dynamics, and regulatory inconsistencies. The discussion resonated strongly with the audience and sparked an engaging exchange of perspectives.
The event concluded with a lively networking reception, where insightful discussions continued over excellent hospitality – a perfect end to the evening.
