Parallel to the DIS40 conference, the DIS celebrated its 30th anniversary. While the roots of the predecessor associations of DIS trace back to 1920, DIS has existed in its current form since 1992. For the DIS, its honorary president Professor Karl-Heinz Böckstiegel and its current president Professor Stefan Kröll looked into the past and future of the association. DIS40 co-chair Moritz Schmitt moderated two lively panels on the conference theme David vs. Goliath, on which representatives of big and small companies, counsel, the academia and the institution exchanged views.
In her opening address, Iris Plöger of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (BDI) emphasized the importance of effective dispute settlement by arbitration for the German industry. She acknowledged the services that DIS provides to businesses and highlighted the need for a coordinated approach of all major stakeholders to promote Germany as an arbitration venue.
Fitting to its anniversary, DIS also warmly welcomed Eda Gürses as its 1,500th member.
